Hanan
Hanan, twenty-two years of age, lives in the village of Nahalin with her husband Mohammed, thirty-one. The couple is considered well educated for this region; Hanan is in her fourth year at the Faculty of Education at Bethlehem University and Mohammed has received his high school degree. Mohammed was earning a good income for his family, which includes the couple’s three year old daughter and a second child on the way. At this joyous time for the family tragedy struck when Mohammed was in an accident which cost him the lower part of one of his legs.

Now Mohammed is unemployed and the family is currently living under bad socio-economic and psychological conditions as a result of Mohammed’s condition and the financial stress of an expanding family. Hanan, in her ninth month of pregnancy, was distraught about the upcoming delivery and the status of her pregnancy (she had endured a terrible delivery with her daughter at another hospital).

Hanan, knowing well that the best medical treatment is offered at Holy Family Hospital, came to its doors for pre-natal care. The dilemma for the family was how they would afford this state-of-the-art medical care for Hanan and their unborn baby. After examination with the doctor, he referred Hanan to the hospital’s social worker regarding the medical expenses. As a result of the generosity of our donors, the social worker was able to assure the couple that Hanan’s medical expenses would be covered by the hospital’s poor case fund— allowing Hanan a peace of mind in her final days of pregnancy and certainty that her delivery will occur at Holy Family Hospital.
